In 1 Corinthians 7:1–12, Paul shows that discipleship to Jesus is a life guided, formed, and informed by Scripture, especially in a world full of both simple and complex problems. We must let Scripture clarify the real issues beneath the surface, keep simple commands simple, and allow complex situations to remain complex while building a biblical framework that shapes our thinking, feeling, and acting. Ultimately, Scripture may not give step-by-step answers for every decision, but it gives us the light we need to make Christlike judgments and take the next faithful step in the direction Jesus is going.
